This exposition was reasserting its role as the only trade show in Italy able to offer a complete panorama of the art world through its 3 separate sections. Together, Modern, Contemporary, and Anteprima took in Italian and international art from the historic avant-garde to the most recent experimental works, attracting collectors with different interests and backgrounds.

We could see different artworks (paintings, sculptures, photography video and performing art) from modern classic art to contemporary art and anteprima, between which there were artworks from Dorazio, Ceroli, Rotella, Basquiat, Chagall, Balla, Andy Warhol, Lucio Fontana, Enzo Guaricci, Castellani, Yumu Karasumaru, David Raimondo, Sergio Lombardo, Aejandro Quincoces and many others.

During the exposition of Miart, the the prestigious conferences have been included. One of them is “Cina Intra/Extra Ovest,” which was the first event to establish a relationship of dialogue and exchange with China.

This year, the focus of Miart was on Latin America, a group of countries in perennial transformation in which the exigencies of art are defining a political and cultural identity.

First time under the umbrella title “fuoriMiArt-(con)temporary art” an unmissable program that presented the most exciting events in the whole city.

Also, The Miraggi project has grown from the desire of the Milan authority for urban design and parks to restore to its citizens a sense of Milan as a city that experiences art as a necessity, a right, a pleasure: A part of the whole.

For the end, the conclusion could be that Milan and MiArt have won again, that confirm the big interest of qualified public and the positive results of sales.

Flower Design-Turin, from 18 th to 29 th March

Flowers have the strong power to speak volumes, even at times, we find ourselves lost for words.

This time in Turin, Flower design is considered a cultural movement, and offers the novelties in the sector, which bring together fashion, design, interior decor, art, environment. Ecology and technology in a movement which is continually reinventing itself and inspiring others.agenda000347_1.jpg

The “flower designer” Pietre M.Ldman, Elize Eveleens, Rob Pattel and Sjacco Gerritsen come from Holland, where flowers have been a vital part of the economy and lifestyle for centuries, where flowers are the “lifeblood” of the country, and are “lived” to the point that designer dare to carry out radical transformations: a pure but pliable and ephemeral raw material, though which to express ideas, feelings, symbols, resulting in accessible design modeled on a specific language, as international as music and dance.

BeCome Real, “A new vision of the daughters of Eve”- Nhow Hotel,Milan

An exposition period at Nhow hotel in Milan, show us the important appointment with the last fashion week. Woman and fashion. The match is quite foreseeable. The exhibition nhow dedicates to women titled ‘BeCome Real’ won’t. This exposition which is curated by Vanina Schenone & Elisabetta Scantamburlo, will be open to the public until April 11 th 2008.

The show gathers together a group of young artists different for subjects and styles. Each of them brings to nhow his/her own peculiar perspective of the daughters of Eve. The illusion of beauty and of looking, and the way they are shown to us by the fashion world, are given away in their inner frailty. Young, old, object, worker, ironic, critical, erotic, dramatic, etc.

English photographer David Stewart shows us women no longer in their prime and looking for a freshness that makes us smile and reflect at the same time. On the other side, he skilfully plays with feminine stereotypes. His pictures cleverly blend chromatic contrasts with sarcasm and play with social critic, thus achieving a deep visual and conceptual impact.

Rosaria lazzetta, versatile artist from Naples, makes use of her subtly salacious, acrimonious, nipping photographs to smile at the dreams of happiness and illusions many women foster. While Marta Comini introduces her little women drawn with simple traits, in search for their identity in the accessories they choose to wear.

Womanly in shapes, soft and seductive are also the design pieces that go along with the art display in all the exhibition areas of the hotel. Young emergent designers have a try at interpreting sensuality giving it the shape of tantalising and provocative seats and lightning pieces. Daniel Becker, Laurie Beckermann, Aviad Gil, Jaren Goh, Assaf Israel, Miss Julia, Marko Macura, Niels van Eijk & Miriam van der Lubbe. Already hosted in the past at nhow, and here again showing their pieces are the Campana brothers, produced by Edra for Dilmos, Gateano Pesce for Meritalia, Moroso, Romolo Stanco for Nonesiste, Matteo Thun. New presences joining the group are those of Adrenalina, with some ironic creations by Simone Micheli, and of MagisDesign, with the elegant seats designed by Ron Arad and Javier Mariscal.

An exclusivity is the set up in the lobby of a minigolf course bringing relaxation from the reception desk to the outside area, by Georg Pal and Hannes Weber.

Ritratti by Tania Pistone, gallery Spiralearte - Milan

Images ( Ritratti) by Tania Pistone shows the famous artists, poets and historical persons exposed to Spiralearte Gallery in Milan, deliver to visitors a piece of contemporary art. Among the many faces are known as Ernest Hemingway, Marco Polo, Camille Claudel, Erasmo From Rotterdam, Herman Hesse, Voltaire painted with acrylic, collage, and text on canvas, to Ulisse, Miguel De Cervantes and many others.
This Italian artist forwards the suggestions of who wants to tell stories through color and texture, creating conceptual paintings where abstraction is the final result of a mental. Writing is a sign calligraphic, loses its meaning and remains significant, trace of a thought process of destruction capable of thoughts in a sensory and emotional dimension.
The artist plays with the size and the different forms of her works. The exhibition becomes a portrait where some works have large and medium size, other unusual forms, others are small, some very small.
The exhibition will be open to the public until March 22 th.

Italy goes burlesque with sick sick girls!

It’s time for a brand new and still old kind of entertainment. It’s time for burlesque.

It all started in the mid 90s with a new generation of nostalgic for the spectacle and perceived glamour of the old times determined to bring burlesque back. This revival was pioneered independently by Billie Madley’s “Cinema” in New York and Michelle Carr’s “The Velvet Hammer Burlesque” in Los Angeles.sick-girl-1.jpg

Few years later Dita Von Teese, ex wife of the renowned rocker Marilyn Manson, made burlesque go big with her brilliant 1930’s cabaret style striptease in a giant glass of absinth complete with sponge sugarcubes. All of a sudden the world was back to the past and discovered the pleasure of a strip which is not simply taking clothes off but a real performance.

And the burlesque fever started spreading all over the globe in the blink of an eye.

Burlesque refers to theatrical entertainment of soft and parodic humor, which usually consists of comic skits and a striptease, never leaving the performer completely naked. Originally, burlesque featured shows that included comic sketches, often lampooning the social attitudes of the upper classes, alternating with dance routines. It developed alongside vaudeville around 1840.

A couple of years ago Burlesque shows started taking place in Europe aswell, especially in the UK and France and right now is this phenomenon is spreading, no longer underground, in Italy aswell.

The biggest team in Italy is certanly SickGirl, born as a tiny photographic project in 2004 and evolved fastly in a website featuring glamorous photosets of pin up girls since the beginning of 2005.

sick-girl-2.jpgCurrently this web based community hosts more than 3.000 users, 2.000 guests per day, about 90 “sick girls”, at least one new photoset a week and, above all, a burlesque show that already touched 40 venues all over Italy, from Milan to Palermo, covering the whole territory and attracting more and more people as time goes by with increasing success.

The tour is crossing the national borders soon, with a show in Slovenia on March 19th that promises to be just the first one of a series of international performances, but you still have many chances to see the show in Italy, the next one is scheduled for March 8th in Nova Gorica and more italian dates will be added soon.

Feathers and fans, shimmering seductive and ironic women, retro music and funny skits, nothing is missing to the sickgirl burlesque show … do you really want to miss it?

Classico Manifesto in Triennale Milan, the advertising and classical tradition

From February 12th until March 24th at the Milan Triennale, is carried out an exhibition Classico Manifesto (the advertising and classical tradition) organised in the collaboration of IUAV ( University of Venice ) and the Italian Foundation of value.

The theme of the exhibition, is the relationship between advertising and classical works, a link where advertising uses the tools of classical works, to give visibility and aesthetic sense to their products, while the classic benefits in turn from advertising, which create symbols and myths, developing a strong cultural interest for the art. This exhibition shows several examples of current advertising, but also historical update and export the concept of classical mythology and the iconographic images of modern mass communication. Some casts of classical statues, as a David by Michelangelo and Laocoonte, are getting put in comparison with their current versions and various posters, videos and refresher advertising, to confirm the thesis that the classic doesn’t afraid of rework.

This exhibition helps to understand the difficult mechanisms of advertising, often seen as easy personification of images and concepts in a simple commercial product. In fact, the art of advertising, hides complex mechanisms, which styles, figures and abstractions are transported and reaffirmed in the collective memory to create a target audience incorporating the message as the creative wants to transmit.

The aim of this exhibition is to give a prospective study in which experts and creative people meet each other to observe and give birth to new forms of cultural communication. A unique opportunity to observe closely, as the classical, and creatively reworked ironically, still manages to convey his power and aesthetics over time reassert its signs.
